Back in 1991, a small Japanese automotive manufacture by the name of Mazda punched well above its weight at the internationally renowned 24 Hours of Le Mans. That year they campaigned the 787b chassis powered by a unique four rotor engine, the only team to do so in the history of the race. The #55 car thundered to victory as Mazda became the first Japanese team to be crowned victor and the first and last time a rotary engine would win. With that in mind, we looked through a variety of the track apparel worn by the team and took our own spin on the design before having them printed on high quality windbreaker style jackets.
Alongside the jackets, we had “slap” style stickers printed in both the yellow/blue scheme and the classic green and orange. Tags were made that also doubled as stickers featuring both our company logo and the CHARGE design.
We released a short run of these jackets and actually had to extend the initial order due to the high volume of sales. There’s always a chance you might see them pop up again in our store so keep your eyes out!
LeaskSpec
If you haven’t seen our other work for LeaskSpec, check it out here for more backstory on our development process with Stewart. This design was meant to be a little more modern than his other 90s themed outerwear while still maintaining the aesthetic of Japanese tuning shops.
From the original design there were some small modifications, such as removing the stars, before it was sent off to printers to be graphed onto a black coach style jacket.
