SiSi Can

The Project

Kollektivnyy Voentorg (KV) contracted us to remake an older out of print label of a popular Russian juice drink called Sisi.  The idea was to remake the can outside as a flat image that could be printed on a shrink sleeve that could be slipped over a contemporary can to achieve the desired aesthetic.  With only a handful of source images the project turned out to be quite difficult, but the end results were worth it.

With a handful of grainy images of the different sides of the can, we created a rolled out version of the can using warp tools and alignment until we had a viable template.  (see below)

Sisi Template

After quite a bit of massaging we had enough images to make a rough composite. If it looks complicated, it is because it was.

Since the images were such a low quality, we were forced to recreate the whole thing as a vector in Illustrator.  Quite a bit of time was spent on finding suitable fonts that were as close to the original as possible before we began modifying the shapes to fit the original.

The artwork was particularly difficult to translate from a curve to flat object.  This gives a close up of all of the smaller details including the functional barcode.

It ended up being a much more involved project than we had original thought, but the attention to detail pays off when you see the cans in their intended historical environment.
