aggressive.
but elegant.
Travis contacted us to design a livery for his 180sx sporting full Origin Labs Attack Line aero, some Kranze LXZ and a 326 Power wing. He asked us to design something that would work well with a montego blue base coat, kept that wild JDM livery design but was still unique to his car. Travis sent us a couple ideas of what he wanted, the usual tribal layered graphics that look so good but are getting a bit tired. We decided, given MB’s blue-green color flop, something more oceanic would look fit the bill.
the great wave.
For the wave, we tested a few different color choices, like matte black, yellow, and a few others, but in the end we went with something that would contrast well with the blue-green. The crests of the waves will be chrome to give it that extra pop, with the main manufacture logos being chrome with matte black backing. The smaller logos will be matte black to give that subdued look and to keep things from looking to busy.
baseline.
While usually we would spend quite a long time on building a fairly hyper-realistic base image for showcasing the proposed render, we simplified things a bit on this car for the sake of time and the fact that it only needed to operate as a proof-of-concept rather than a full print that usually costs three to four times the amount of livery designing. As such, things like the wheels were cut from real photographs rather than rendered and some of the shadows are not as sharp as I would usually like. On this close up, note the wave mirrors the canard shape to tie the design together.
While the main parts of the design are done sans the hood and small parts of the front and rear bumper, we still have to generate the cutting and install sheet to facilitate a smooth application. Additionally, Travis also requested a front and rear window banner to round out the livery so stay tuned for future updates!
