Menu Clean Up
As mentioned in a previous article, a local sushi bar wanted our help in redesigning their menu and professionalizing their content.
The old menu had a variety of small problems that we wanted to remedy, things like low-resolution images, mix-matched fonts, inconsistent spacing, etc. Additionally, they wanted to add some small illustrations and make the menu pop a little bit more.
One of the biggest issues was wasted space and misalignment with the original. The margins bled off the page so that some letters were cut off. Additionally, when printed on a standard U.S. paper size there was quite a bit of waste as each page was over 4.25in in width.
With that in mind we set the margins to an average home-office printer width and adjusted the alignments to allow for two pages to be printed on a single sheet to reduce waste. This had the added benefit of allowing the menus to also be printed as a one sheet front/back layout if they ever decided to do so.

Some reorganization was needed, things like the daily soup were left hanging on their own page where customers would never find it and some of the specialty rolls were likewise separated without headings.
We also added some variety to the headings to fill space and played with negative and positive headers. The nigiri and sashimi line up with their respective headers to hopefully direct guests easier as inexperienced diners often confuse the two.
Overall, this was a fun project and we hope to do more layouts and items like this in the future!
